Play Therapy with Military Families: Understanding Culture, Lifestyle and Resiliency

6 CE hours

This workshop will provide an overview of the cultural aspects of counseling military populations and discuss common presenting issues (e.g., deployments, moving).  Play therapy interventions for use with children, families, adults, and couples will be discussed and experienced.

 Learning Objectives:
     1.  Recognize the cultural aspects of military life and how these

              characteristics impact counseling, especially play therapy, needs.
         2.  Understand the cycles of deployment and moving and their

               impact on military children and families.
         3.  Identify play therapy and sand tray techniques to address

              military lifestyle challenges including loss, separation and transitions.
         4.  Use strategies to build the resiliency of military children and families.
